Start Planning Early
The earlier you start, the smoother your move will be. We recommend beginning your planning at least 4-6 weeks before your move date - especially for larger homes or long-distance relocations.
Use a simple checklist to track tasks: booking movers, notifying utilities, forwarding your mail, and packing room by room. A little organization up front saves a lot of stress on moving day.
Declutter Before You Pack
Moving is the perfect opportunity to shed what you no longer need. Go through each room and sort items into keep, donate, and discard piles. The less you move, the less you pay - and the faster you'll get settled in your new home.
- Donate usable furniture and clothing to local shelters or thrift stores
- List valuable items on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist ahead of move day
- Schedule a junk removal pickup - we offer this service too
Pack Room by Room
Don't try to pack your whole house at once. Work through one room at a time, clearly labeling every box with its contents and destination room. This makes unpacking significantly faster and helps our crew place boxes exactly where they belong.
- Use color-coded tape or markers for each room
- Pack heavy items in small boxes, light items in large boxes
- Keep an "open first" box with essentials for day one: chargers, toiletries, a change of clothes
- Photograph electronics setups before disconnecting so you can reassemble easily
Protect Your Valuables
For irreplaceable items - jewelry, documents, sentimental keepsakes - transport them yourself rather than loading them on the truck. Keep important paperwork (leases, IDs, insurance) in a dedicated folder you carry personally.
For furniture and artwork, our crew uses professional-grade padding, shrink wrap, and custom blankets. Let us know about any specialty items in advance so we can plan accordingly.
Prepare Your New Home First
If possible, visit your new home before moving day. Clean it, measure doorways for large furniture, and plan where key items will go. This prevents bottlenecks on moving day and lets our crew work faster.
- Confirm elevator reservations if moving into an apartment or high-rise
- Reserve parking for the moving truck - especially in urban areas
- Set up utilities before you arrive: electricity, internet, water
- Have a plan for pets and children on moving day to keep everyone safe
